Protesters rally outside China Embassy to defend sovereignty over WPS

Various groups marched and protested in front of the Chinese Embassy on Tuesday, March 11, to defend the sovereignty of West Philippine Sea (WPS).

The groups were under the Filipinos Do Not Yield Movement (FDNY-Movement), a newly formed movement against China's aggressive actions in the WPS.

It was led by Dr. Jose Antonio "Ka Pep" Ejercito Goitia, president and first nominee of the ABP (Ang Bumbero ng Pilipinas) Partylist, and Chairman Emeritus of the nationalist coalition People's Alliance for Democracy and Reform (PADER), the Alliance of Filipino Kabalikat sa Demokrasya (ABKD), and the Liga ng Idependencia ng Pilipinas (LIPI). 

They strongly condemned China’s audacious statement distorting history in their new claim over Palawan and their past harassment and intimidation of Filipino fishermen and military personnel in the WPS.

Dr. Goitia explained that the protest action was a demonstration of their love for the country and a patriotic stand against China's continued aggressive actions and territorial expansion in the WPS.

"Dapat nang wakasan ang kalokohang ito. Hindi namin papayagan na agawin ninyo ang aming mga teritoryo at mga karapatan sa loob ng Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas, alinsunod sa United Nations Charter, 1982 United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) at naging desisyon ng Permanent Court of Arbitration sa The Hague noong Hulyo 12, 2016, na walang ligal na basehan ang “historical rights” na iginigiit ng Tsina at pag-aangkin sa Palawan (This nonsense must end. We will not allow you to take our territories and rights within the Philippines' EEZ, in accordance with the United Nations Charter, the 1982 UNCLOS, and the decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague on July 12, 2016, which found no legal basis for China’s so-called 'historical rights' and claims over Palawan)," he stated.

The groups ended the program by calling on China to recognize and respect international maritime laws.

They said that they will continue to launch actions and protests in front of the China Embassy in the Philippines, if the Chinese officials do not stop spreading misinformation.
