As the Korean entertainment industry mourns the death of singer Wheesung, the police announced they will request for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

Wheesung (Choi Whee-sung/휘성) was found dead at his home in Gwangjin, South Korea on March 10. He was 43.

On March 10, the Korean police and fire department said Wheesung was found unconscious in an apartment at about 6:29 p.m. KST, Korean media reported.

Based on the circumstances at the time of discovery, the police and fire department said Wheesung had been dead for quite some time.

“There have been no signs of criminal activity, such as external intrusion, so far. We are investigating whether there was a note and the specific circumstances of his death,” the police said.

Wheesung’s agency, Tajoy Entertainment, issued a statement about his death.

“Our artist Wheesung has left us. The deceased was found in cardiac arrest at his home in Seoul and was pronounced dead,” it said.

In a new statement issued on March 11, Tajoy Entertainment said no funeral schedule has been set yet as Wheesung’s family is in shock over his death.

"We have been receiving many inquiries about Wheesung's wake and funeral arrangements since the heartbreaking news. We are unable to proceed with the funeral due to the great shock and sadness of the bereaved family caused by the sudden sad news,” it said.

The agency added, "The bereaved family plans to proceed with the funeral as they feel better, and the funeral will be held quietly with only family, relatives, and acquaintances in attendance according to the bereaved family's wishes."

Wheesung was set to hold a joint concert with Korean singer KCM on March 15 at Daegu EXCO Auditorium in South Korea.

“See you on March 15,” Wheesung posted on Instagram on March 6.

Following his death, KCM paid tribute to him, writing on Instagram, ““Let’s meet on March 15… I’m sorry, Sung-ah…”

Singers paid tribute to Wheesung on social media including Mamamoo’s Solar, DJ Doc, Changmo and Jo Kwon.
