Maynilad spent ₱26 billion on water, wastewater upgrades in 2024

West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. invested nearly ₱26 billion in capital expenditure (capex) last year to improve water and wastewater services in its service area.

In a statement on Tuesday, March 11, Maynilad reported spending ₱25.75 billion on capex projects throughout its service areas last year.

Of that amount, ₱7 billion was allocated for sewerage system improvements, including the commencement of the Caloocan and Las Piñas Water Reclamation Facilities (WRFs). Wastewater treatment facility upgrades were also conducted in Muntinlupa, Pasay, Quezon City, and Manila.

Maynilad earmarked ₱6 billion for its Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction program, which included the replacement of 142 kilometers of pipes. This effort resulted in the recovery of 158 million liters of water per day (MLD).

Key facilities, such as the Poblacion Water Treatment Plant in Muntinlupa and the Parada Pumping Station in Valenzuela, received a combined ₱6.5 billion in funding.

The company also expanded its pipeline network to Morong, Rizal, in preparation for the increased water supply from the Kaliwa Dam.

An additional ₱4.4 billion was invested in small-scale water treatment facility developments, designed as alternative water sources to dams and rivers in Cavite province.

Maynilad stated that remaining funds were used for customer service enhancements and information campaigns.

Ramoncito S. Fernandez, Mayniald president and chief executive office, said these investments will enhance service delivery and "ensure long-term sustainability amid growing demand and climate challenges."

"We remain focused on strengthening our operations and expanding access to clean water and sanitation for our customers," he added.

In January, Maynilad announced plans for a ₱30-billion capex budget for 2025, approximately 16.49 percent higher than the previous year's investment.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), serving parts of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and Cavite province.
