Majority of Filipinos prefer Grace Poe as DICT head - survey

Close to three-fifths of Filipinos want Senator Grace Poe to be the next Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) chief, the results of survey firm Tangere's latest public opinion poll showed.

According to Tangere, of those surveyed, 27 percent were unsure, compared to just 14 percent that believe Poe is unfit for the position.

Respondents aged 26 to 35 from Southern Luzon, Northern Luzon, and Visayas are the key demographics driving the agreement, while opposition to the agreement is largely concentrated among respondents aged 36 to 50 from Metro Manila.

"In response to the question on the reasons for their agreement in the survey, Senator Grace Poe’s experience as chair-person of the Committee on Public Information and Mass Media and the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act was mentioned by a third of the respondents," the pollster said.

The primary objection raised by those opposed was the perceived lack of relevant information technology (IT) experience in her educational and professional background.

The non-commissioned survey, conducted March 10, 2025, was administered via a mobile-based respondent application with a sample size of 2,000 participants (+/- 2.15% Margin of Error at a 95 percent Confidence Level) using a Stratified Random Sampling method (Quota Based Sampling).

The proportion was spread throughout the Philippines, with 12 percent from NCR, 23 percent from Northern Luzon, 22 percent from Southern Luzon, 20 percent from Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
