Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate Makati City Mayor Abby Binay used the campaign trail to trace back to her roots Tuesday, March 18 as she visited several municipalities in Batangas to hold dialogs with fellow mayors and local government officials.
In a series of meetings during her visit to the towns of Bauan, Cuenca, and Batangas City, Binay discussed her priority legislations, including providing regular salaries and benefits to barangay officials and insurance coverage for disaster response and rescue workers.
Bauan officials led by Vice Mayor Ronald Cruzat welcomed Binay at the Bauan Municipal Hall, where she expressed her thanks to the residents for their warm welcome and support.
The mayor’s grandfather, Diego Binay, the father of former Vice President Jejomar Binay, hails from Bauan, Batangas.
She also paid a courtesy visit to Batangas City Mayor Beverly Dimacuha and met with Cuenca Municipal Mayor Alexander Magpantay, city officials and employees.
The lady mayor earlier said that she will be the voice of local government units in the Senate.
"I will bring my experience as a Mayor to the Senate to provide a local perspective when drafting policies and laws that will affect the local government units," she said.
The Alyansa bet previously pointed out the need for sensible and practical legislations that would tserve the interest of the people. She noted how local government units are being burdened unnecessarily because of national laws that fail to take into account their financial capability.
She cited as an example the lack of national funding for the operation of super health centers built by the Department of Health (DOH) in various locations in the country.
Mayor Binay’s visit to Batangas is part of her thrust to engage with more local government units all over the country. She is set to meet with local officials in Alitagtag, Lemery, Calaca, Lipa City, Tanauan, and Sto. Tomas.
