ILOILO CITY – The Department of Tourism said the Western Visayas region earned more than P74 billion from tourism in 2024.

DOT-6 Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez said 5.9 million domestic and foreign tourists visited the six provinces and two highly urbanized cities in the region last year.
Rodriguez said the number of visitors is 10.25 percent higher compared to the 5.3 million in 2023.
The province of Aklan contributed P42.9 billion from the two million tourists who visited Boracay Island, the country’s most famous beach destination in Malay town.
The regional capital Iloilo City was second with P9.4 billion from more than a million tourists.
Negros Occidental province contributed P7.9 billion from 883,514 tourists; Bacolod City, P6.22 billion from 694,015 tourists; and Iloilo province, which has 42 towns and the component city of Passi, P3.9 billion from 358,475 tourists.
Capiz province earned more than P1 billion for the first time from the 282,929 tourists. Tourist arrivals in Capiz last year went up by 43.73 percent.
The island-province of Guimaras contributed P455 million from 137,953 tourists.
