President Marcos has named Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary for Special Concerns Paul Mercado as the agency's officer-in-charge following the resignation of Ivan Uy as secretary.

Palace Press Office and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed this in a text message to reporters on Monday evening, March 10.
Mercado will be leading the DICT after Uy resigned as DICT secretary last week. Malacañang has yet to share information behind Uy's resignation.
Before joining the DICT, Mercado was a director at the Office of the Speaker at the House of Representatives.
Mercado led the country's delegation at the 5th ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADGSOM) in Bangkok, Thailand, in January this year.
The ADGSOM promotes a connected, inclusive, and resilient digital economy in the region. This year’s meeting featured a review of the progress of the 2024 Work Cycle activities and a presentation of updates on approved digital transformation projects.
In a speech last year, Mercado underscored the significance of the eGovernment Masterplan and the establishment of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Council.
He highlighted the council’s role as a strategic platform to encourage collaboration, align efforts, and overcome challenges in digital transformation.
"This council is our collective opportunity to shape the future… Together, we have the potential to close the country’s digital divide and build a digitally connected nation that truly serves its people," he said.
