Following their record-breaking debut last year, K-pop girl group ILLIT released a bittersweet love song “Almond Chocolate (Korean Ver.)” on March 10.
“Almond Chocolate,” specially created as the soundtrack for the Japanese movie “It Takes More Than a Pretty Face to Fall in Love,” previously dropped on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) in Japanese version.
It immediately reached No. 1 on both Spotify Japan’s Daily Rising and AWA Music Real-time Rising charts, as well as the top spots of the Oricon Daily Digital Single Ranking.

“Almond Chocolate (Korean ver.)” pleasantly locks into the ears with its upbeat, lively sound and heartfelt lyrics. Conveying ILLIT’s lovely yet confident approach to a crush through the metaphor of almond chocolate, the song showcases the quintet’s remarkable progress in vocals, highlighting their growth in musicality.
A special film accompanying the new music has already surpassed 12 million views in just over three weeks from its release. The visualizer follows each member as they prepare for a heart-fluttering confession to their crush, engraving the five girls’ pure and endearing look into the memories of viewers.
About the new release, ILLIT said: “‘Almond Chocolate’ is a song that we truly love and cherish, and we hope our hearts poured into this song will be fully conveyed to GLITTs, our fans.”
They said they “tried to express the fluttering excitement and overwhelming emotions” throughout the recording process.
ILLIT highlighted the lyrics and choreography as the key elements of the song saying, “Anyone who has a crush will be able to relate to the sweet, adorable lyrics. Please also look forward to our signature finger movements that incorporate various shapes of almond chocolate this time.”
In 2024, ILLIT made a remarkable impact in the global music charts. The lead single, “Magnetic,” from their debut album “Super Real Me” made history as the first-ever K-pop debut track to enter both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Singles charts.
They continued this with their second mini album “I’ll Like You,” which debuted at No. 94 on Billboard 200 to score the group’s second consecutive entry on the chart.
ILLIT’s digital single “Almond Chocolate (Korean Ver.)” is now available on all streaming platforms worldwide.
