Walk, run, bike: Marikina LGU to launch car-free Sundays on March 2
Marikina City is set to launch car-free Sundays on March 2, joining other cities in providing residents with a new and safer space to enjoy activities that promote fitness and health.
The car-free program will take place from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Gil Fernando Avenue, which will be closed from the corner of Guerilla Street (Xeland Marikina) to Comedor Restaurant.
Motorists are advised to take note of road closures and traffic rerouting on selected roads.

Mayor Marcy and Rep. Maan Teodoro encouraged everyone to participate in the activity as a step toward a better, healthier, and more bike and pedestrian-friendly city.
“Sa Marikina, hindi lang tayo lungsod. Tayo ay isang komunidad na nagtutulungan. Dito, ang ating mga lansangan ay hindi lang para sa sasakyan kundi para rin sa mga tao (In Marikina, we are not just a city—we are a community that helps one another. Here, our streets are not just for vehicles but also for people),” the mayor said.
“Para sa mas ligtas, mas malinis, at mas masiglang Marikina (For a safer, cleaner, and more vibrant Marikina), let us embrace active mobility,” he added.
“Walk, run, and bike! This is our space. Tara na sa mas masigla at mas level up na Marikina! (Let’s go for a more vibrant and leveled-up Marikina),” Rep. Maan said.
The local government said activities to enjoy include Zumba and fitness sessions, biking, jogging, and walking, along with exploring local shops and great food spots.
