Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong finds no issue with his brother, Governor Datu Mamintal "Bombit" Alonto Adiong Jr.'s endorsement of the reelection bid of Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa.
"We may be brothers but we have our own opinions naman talaga eh (we really have our own opinions)," Rep. Adiong, an assistant majority leader in the House of Representatives, said in a recent press conference.
"I mean, he (governor) is entitled to also endorse anybody, any candidate that he feels fitting to assume the office of senator. Yun po yung kanyang position (That is his position)," he added.
Rep. Adiong is a member of the House "Young Guns" bloc, which for the past year hasn't shied away from criticizing former president Rodrigo Duterte and his allies.
Dela Rosa is part of the senatorial slate of the Duterte-led Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban). He has cracked the top 12 as per the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey results.
"I think the governor is coming from a place where Senator Dela Rosa once became student of the Mindanao State University. Meron silang, meron talaga silang engagement (They had an engagement) before when they were in college. So, I think that's where the governor is coming from," the congressman said.
He underscored that there's nothing wrong with having differing opinions on who to vote for, even as brothers.
"Magkakaiba-iba kami ng kanyang opinion pagdating sa kung sino i-endorse (We have differing opinions when it comes who to endorse). But I respect his decision, and I think he's entitled to endorse anybody he thinks is fit to become senator," Rep. Adiong said.
"Let's just leave it at that, I respect the decision of the Governor. Mine, I have my own also, my own choices for senators. I have my own choices of senators. At saka gusto ko lang din sabihin na member ako ng Lakas-CMD (And I also want to say that I'm a member of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats)," he further noted.
