The Philippine men’s curling team grabbed its first win in the men’s curling team competition of the 9th Asian Winter Games after taking down Kazakhstan, 4-1, Monday morning, Feb. 10, in Harbin, China.

Following a 6-1 loss in their season opener against South Korea, the Filipinos rallied back against the Kazakhs to even their record to 1-1 for third place in Group A of the round robin standings as of press time.

Leading by only a single point, 2-1, by the fourth end, the Nationals, skippered by Swiss-Filipino Marc Pfister, put the nail in the coffin in the seventh end by netting two more points to distance themselves from their opponents and ensure the victory.

Up next for the men’s team is against the winless Kyrgyzstan Monday night at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Philippine women’s curling team fell short in its match versus Japan, suffering its first loss, 6-4, to slide to a 2-1 record.

The women’s squad will look to bounce back in its next match against Kazakhstan at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Harbin Pingfang Curling Arena.
