House members on Saturday, Feb. 8, pressed for an investigation on the impeached Vice President Sara Duterte’s assassination attempt on the First Couple and House Speaker Martin Romualdez amid her continued denial of making such a threat.
Taguig City 2nd district Rep. Pammy Zamora, Zambales 1st district Rep. Jay Khonghun, and Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Adiong hit Duterte for her "blatant attempt" to deceive the Filipino people by denying that she made an assassination threat against President Marcos, his wife Liza, and Romualdez.
Adiong called for a probe into Duterte's remark, which he described as a grave concern to national security.
He says among the questions that must be answered include "Who is the person she spoke to?," "Why is she suddenly denying what she said?," and "Does she pose a threat to national stability?"
Adiong noted it was not the first time Duterte tried to mislead the public, as he pointed out that Duterte continuously dodged accountability—from refusing to explain the P125-million confidential fund anomaly to justifying the illegal transfer of Department of Education (DepEd) and the Office of the Vice President's funds.
“VP Sara Duterte is now trying to play the victim, but she is the one who put herself in this mess,” Adiong said.
Khonghun asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to work hard in expediting the resolution of their investigation on the case.
For Zamora, Duterte's sudden backtracking "was a desperate and clumsy attempt to erase her own reckless statements from public memory".
