The Quezon City government has acquired a bust of former President Manuel L. Quezon.
According to the QC government, the bust is created by the first National Artist for Sculpture Guillermo Tolentino.
The bust has a size of 22 centimeters (cm) in height, 9 cm in width, and 11 cm in length. It was previously listed at auction from the José Abád López Collection curated by León Gallery under the title "A Bust of a Man".
The bust will join other Tolentino sculptures that are on public display such as the Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan and the Oblation at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
“As a city that takes great pride in its history, we are honored to bring this remarkable piece home. This bust is not only a tribute to our founding father but is also aligned to our goal of preserving our nation’s artistic and cultural legacy.” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.
The QC government said the Quezon bust will be added to the city’s collection at the Quezon Heritage House located inside the Quezon Memorial Circle. It will join other relics, memorabilia and artifacts that is connected to the former President.
The city aims that with the addition of the Tolentino sculpture, QCitizens and visitors can have a deeper appreciation of the city’s historical roots and artistic brilliance of one of the nation’s greatest sculptors.
“This acquisition reaffirms QC’s commitment to cultural preservation and its ongoing efforts to honor the legacy of its namesake,” the city said.
