The administration-backed Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate is set to uncork on Feb 11 a carefully calibrated campaign that will utilize President Marcos' own schedule to the candidates' advantage.

Comprising the Alyansa slate are former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III; former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Benhur Abalos; former Senators Panfilo Lacson, Manny Pacquiao; Senators Pia Cayetano, Lito Lapid, Imee Marcos, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., Francis Tolentino; Makati City Mayor Abby Binay; House Deputy Speaker Las Piñas City lone district Rep. Camille Villar; and House Deputy Majority Leader ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo.

Alyansa campaign manager Navotas City lone district Rep. Toby Tiangco shared to reporters over the weekend the practical but clever strategy that had been laid out for the candidates to maximize exposure and resources.

"We have identified 21 sorties or 21 rallies out of the 90 [campaign days...identified and organized by the Alyansa," Tiangco said.

He said the location of these sorties were "determined based on the schedule of the President...kasi syempre ang request namin is makasama siya nung slate (because of course oir request if for him to accompany the slate)".

"Pinakiusapan namin yung 12 candidates to be present in those 21 sorties dahil nandun si Presidente (We've appealed to the 12 candidates to be present in those 21 sorties because the President will there)," Tiangco said.

In turn, President Marcos is expected to endorse each candidate and give them a rub off his popularity ahead of the May 12 elections.

If 21 sorties within a 90-day campaign sounds somewhat meager, it really isn't since the Alyansa bets can strike it out on their own on days that Marcos is unavailable.

"The other days syempre libre na yung kandidato dun sa kanilang individual sorites (The other days of course the candidates are free to do their individual sorites)," Tiangco said.

Campaign kickoff schedule

The Alansya will launch its campaign on Feb. 11 in Marcos country--Laoag, Ilocos Norte--at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena. Two days later, the administration candidates will hold a rally at Vera Park, Gaisano Grounds ICC in Iloilo City.

From there, they will fly further south on Feb. 15 to Carmen Municipal Park and Plaza in Davao del Norte. The Alansya slate will then hold a rally on Feb. 18 at the National Capital Region (NCR)--specifically at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

Displaying candidness, Tiangco told reporters that he cannot guarantee a 12-0 sweep of Alyansa come election day. However, he said that all of their candidates were capable.

Tiangco withheld the locations of subsequent sorties for security reasons.

“This campaign is bigger than politics. It’s about a Bagong Pilipinas—a new Philippines that every Filipino can see, feel and take pride in,” said the Navotas congressman, who was handpicked by President Marcos himself to lead the campaign.

Tiangco said that with a grassroots-driven approach, the campaign will amplify the administration’s call for unity and transformation, and rally Filipinos behind a Senate that will work in step with President Marcos to build a stronger, more progressive nation.
