A 25-year-old college student was arrested by members of the Makati City Police for selling firearms in Barangay Magallanes, Makati City on Thursday, Feb. 6, the Southern Police District (SPD) said.
The suspect was identified as "Jonathan." He was nabbed during a buy-bust operation on Chino Roces Avenue.
Jonathan yielded multiple high-caliber firearms and ammunition, including a 5.56-caliber SLR-B15 rifle, a 5.7-caliber Ruger pistol, two 5.56 rifle magazines, two 5.7 Ruger pistol magazines loaded with 40 live rounds, a rifle bag, and other gun paraphernalia.
"The arrest of alias “Jonathan” marks a significant step in safeguarding the integrity of the 2025 elections. Under Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution 11067, in relation to Republic Act 7166, the unauthorized possession, carrying, and selling of firearms during the election period is strictly prohibited," the SPD said.
"The suspect failed to present legal authorization for firearm sales or a Comelec exemption, leading to his immediate arrest," it added.
Meanwhile, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin, together with the SPD and the rest of the police force, encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities related to illegal firearms possession and sales.
"This collective effort will help ensure a safe, secure, and credible election process," the SPD said.
