PDP-Laban slams impeachment complaint against VP Sara

DAVAO CITY – The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan denounced on Friday, Feb. 7, the impeachment complait filed against Vice President Sara Z. Duterte by the House of Representatives.

The erstwhile administration party called it a "sham and a railroaded process driven by political motives.”

The PDP-Laban chaired by Former President Rodrigo R. Duterte expressed extreme disgust over the impeachment that came less than halfway into Vice President Duterte’s six-year term. 

“Vice President Duterte, who received 32.2 million votes in the 2022 elections, is the most-voted candidate in Philippine history. The impeachment is a blatant display of dirty politics, an affront to the sovereign will of the Filipino people, and a reckless abuse of power,” the PDP-Laban said.

PDP-Laban alleged that certain House members orchestrated the impeachment to divert public attention from the country's worsening situation, including corruption and poverty. They said the move aims to damage Duterte’s chances of running for a higher position in 2028.

The current administration has weighed in on the issue, with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urging lawmakers to drop the impeachment complaint and focus on addressing the country’s challenges.

“He told the House to halt the impeachment complaint and address ordinary Filipinos' problems.  Why not address this growing discontent and frustrations across the country resulting from the worsening peace and order, graft and corruption, and poverty?” the PDP Laban said.

The PDP-Laban called on Filipino voters to be mindful of their choices in the May elections, particularly incoming senators who would determine the fate of the Vice President.

The PDP-Laban said that “impeachment is a numbers game.” They said the more allies Vice President Duterte has in the Senate, the better for the country. The Senate will take up the impeachment case in June.

PDP-Laban Executive Vice President and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte asserted that casting votes for their candidates would be a stance against the Marcos administration who has done nothing but fool and oppress the country and its people.

Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte, the Vice President’s eldest brother, and third district Rep. Isidro Ungab slammed the impeachment complaint, Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
