Marcos to call for special session to tackle Duterte impeachment if Senate asks for it
President Marcos said he would call for a special session of the Senate to tackle the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte if the Senate makes a request.

"If the senators ask for it, yes," Marcos said in a Palace briefing on Thursday, Feb. 6, when asked whether he would call for a special session for the impeachment of Duterte.
However, the President emphasized that it is still up to the Senators to decide whether or not they would make the request.
"Again, sila ang magde-decide. Hindi kami ang nagde-decide nito (they will be the ones deciding on this, not us). We – if the Senate President calls me up on the telephone, 'the senators, kinausap ko yung mga senador kung puwede bang mag-special session (ask if they can do a special session)?“Sure.” Gagawin ko (I'll do it)," Marcos explained.
"Pero kung wala silang request na ganoon, ibig sabihin may iba pa silang ginagawa (However, if they do not have such request, that means they are still busy on other things). They are not yet ready," he added.
Marcos also bared that as of Thursday, he has yet to receive any request from the Senate, saying it was too early to do so.
"Napakaaga naman (It's too early). They just got it yesterday," he said.
On Thursday, Senate President Francis Escudero said that there will be no action from the Senate on the impeachment complaint during the Congress break. Congress session will resume on June 2.
He, however, said that it would be possible to act on the impeachment trial if the President calls for a special session. But he also pointed out that the President can call for a special session not for convening the impeachment court. "It is called for important matters and bills that need to be passed," the senator said.
On Wednesday, Feb. 5, the House of Representatives impeached the Vice President, where 215 of the House members signed a fourth impeachment complaint containing a reported six articles of impeachment for the Vice President's ouster.
On the same day, the impeachment complaint reached the Senate which will stand as the impeachment court during the trial of Duterte. The senators will act as judges at the trial.
