Fur-tastic promotion: Shih Tzu police dog gets promoted with 200 cops in Rizal

A Shih Tzu-Poodle mix police dog named "Tiger" stole the spotlight as netizens were amused by its promotion together with more than 200 police personnel during the simultaneous oath-taking in Taytay, Rizal, on Thursday, Feb. 6.

The Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) said the event was part of the nationwide oath-taking, donning, and pinning of ranks for 2nd-level uniformed personnel for the 2024 calendar year, with local ceremonies held at the Parade Ground of the Rizal PPO.

Tiger was promoted to corporal and has been courageously serving alongside the Rizal PPO in their field responses.

“Lubos na tuwa at galak ang hinatid ni Tiger sa lahat ng na promote na personnel at pamilya na kasama at nagdagdag ng kasiyahan sa lahat ng dumalo (Tiger brought joy and excitement to the newly promoted personnel and their families),” it said.

According to PNP, the event is part of the regular promotion cycle for Calendar Year 2024, recognizing the dedication and exemplary service of personnel who have shown outstanding commitment to law enforcement.

It said that a total of 33,143 police personnel nationwide were promoted to higher ranks.

PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil emphasized that the promotion symbolizes more than just additional ranks and insignia. 

“This promotion is not just about adding stripes or stars to your uniform; it is a testament to your dedication, hard work, and commitment to the noble service of law enforcement. It signifies the trust and confidence that the PNP places in you to carry greater responsibilities and meet the ever-evolving challenges of maintaining peace and order,” he explained.

“Every position demands competence, integrity, and selfless dedication. Let this promotion inspire you to uphold the highest standards of responsible policing and serve as role models for those who will follow in your footsteps,” Marbil added.
