Marcos names DILG usec Valenzuela as new DDB chair; other appointees bared

President Marcos has named Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) undersecretary Oscar Valenzuela as the new chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) announced.

The PCO announced this via a Facebook post on Friday morning, Feb. 7, along with other presidential appointees.
Based on the post, Valenzuela will be the chair and permanent member of the DDB, which serves as the policy-making and coordinating agency on all matters related to drug prevention and control in the Philippines.
Valenzuela, who served as DILG Undersecretary for Peace and Order, has been at the forefront of various anti-drug campaigns. He has emphasized on numerous occasions the need for a holistic and multi-sectoral approach to combating illegal drugs, focusing on reducing demand, disrupting supply chains, and prioritizing the rehabilitation and reintegration of drug dependents into society.
He has been a strong advocate for the Barangay Drug Clearing Program (BDCP) and the "Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan" (BIDA) program, both of which aim to eradicate illegal drugs at the grassroots level.
In November 2022, Valenzuela echoed the DILG's call for key sectors of society, religious communities, spiritual advisers, advocacy support groups, and support multiplier to work closely to address the illegal drugs issues.
"In response to pressing realities, the BIDA program delivers our promise for a better and bright future for all Filipinos, especially the youth. The DILG strongly believes that the success of BIDA is in our hands," he said.
He has also underscored the need for community involvement and the rehabilitation of drug dependents as key components in the fight against illegal drugs.
Before joining the DILG, Valenzuela was the former Police Assistant Regional Director for Operations of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and Police Provincial Director of Ilocos Norte.
Other appointments
Among the appointees the PCO announced on Friday morning were Christopher Montero as Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia and Elizabeth Te as Philippine Ambassador to Laos.
The PCO likewise announced the appointment of Roberto Manalo as non-resident ambassador to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan, in addition to being Philippine Ambassador to Iran with concurrent jurisdiction over Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Domingo Nolasco was also revealed to have been appointed as the non-resident ambassador to Estonia while being the Philippine Ambassador to Finland.
President Marcos likewise named Fe del Rosario and Ian Dennis Baniqued as Executive Director IV and Director III, respectively, on the Board of Investments.
Marcos named Desiderio Apag III as a Commission on Higher Education (CHED) commissioner, while Carmela Oracion was appointed as an assistant secretary at the Department of Education (DepEd).
The President also named Stephen Cruz, Wendell Dimaculangan, and Maura Regis as members of the board of directors of the Philippine Postal Corporation.
Meanwhile, Josef Angelo Martires was named undersecretary at the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).
