The Bayo Foundation, the Harvest Creative Community Hub, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines have banded together and have collaborated on an inspiring initiative that they’ve called Weave for Peace. For the benefit of soldiers and their families, the project creates exclusive designs of apparel, crafted from upcycled military uniforms, in order to promote Sustainability, community development, and peace-building. These items of clothing will be made available at Bayo stores nationwide.

During the launch of Weave for Peace, I liked how the different arms our our military were represented, proud to make their presence felt, in support of this endeavor. The Army, the Navy, the Marines, and the Air Force, were all accounted for at the Greenbelt 5 Gallery.

Anna Lagon of Bayo gave a stirring address, explaining why it was so important to make this initiative come together, as a special public-private partnership. As the representative from Harvest remarked, it’s not just about recycling, but upcycling and giving these military uniforms a new purpose. Gen. Romeo Brawner, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, spoke about how he would see these old uniforms appear, worn by random persons in a manner that did not show respect; so he liked how this was now being done with sustainable purpose.
