Not cleared: Senior citizen applying for police clearance nabbed for attempted rape

A 67-year-old taxi driver who was applying for a police clearance was arrested by the Angono Police on Tuesday, Feb. 4, after discovering that he has a standing warrant of arrest for the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in 2015.
Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) Director Col. Felipe Maraggun said the attempted rape happened in 2015 in Binangonan, Rizal.
He said the warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 38 in Manila on June 5, 2015.
Based on the police report, the girl is the niece of the suspect's friend whom the suspect tried to bring to a motel. The victim resisted the suspect's advances and was able to escape.
The senior citizen said he was aware that the girl reported the incident to her parents and the police but he was not aware that he has a warrant of arrest.
He claimed that he and the victim had a week-long relationship, saying that the girl voluntarily went with him to the motel.
"Eh may gusto rin sa akin yung bata. Nasabi nya rin sa akin… Ginusto rin niya na sasama siya (The girl has feelings for me. She told me she also wants to come with me to the motel)," the suspect said in an interview.
He also claimed that the victim's parents stole money from him after he was not able to lend them money.
"Nanghihiram po kasi ng pera yan sa akin, yung magulang ng babae. Eh ngayon po, hindi ko po napahiram. Hinoldap pa ako eh. Naibigay ko ho yung pera ko na kwatro mil mahigit po yun (The girl's parents were borrowing money from me, however, I didn't lend it to them. They then stole over P4,000 from me)," the suspect added.
Maraggun said the suspect is currently detained at the Angono Municipal Police Station.
