From 215 on Wednesday, the number of signatories to the Senate-referred impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte now stands at 239.
This significant jump was shared to House reporters by "Young Guns" bloc members Assistant Minority Leader 1-Rider Party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez and Assistant Majority Leader Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong during a press conference Thursday, Feb. 6.
The fourth impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte was directly transmitted to the Senate Wednesday on the strength of the 215 endorsers. Only 102 signatures or one-third of the current membership of the House of Representatives--306--was needed for this to happen.
"Yung nalakap po natin ay 215 (What we gathered was 215), those are the members who were physically present during yesterday's filing of the fourth complaint. Meron din pong nagpa-abot ng kanilang supporta sa complaint na ito (There were others who intimated their support for this complaint)," Adiong said.
"Although I don't know how they would be able to be included as complainants to amend the
215 to make it 225, kung di ako nagkakamali (If I'm not mistaken)," he added.
"But that would depend on, I guess, on the court on the Senate acting as impeachment court whether they would allow such amendment to the number of complainant," noted Adiong.
As the press conference progressed, Gutierrez reported that the running total further swelled to 239.
"I believe that some congressmen have signified their intent to add themselves as complainants, I forgot the number, but I think its...239 as of now and counting," he said.

"The decision of whether or not they would be allowed to be amended into the complaint as additional complainants would depend on the rules of the Senate when they release the rules for impeachment so it would depend there," reiterated Gutierrez, who is part of the House prosecution panel for the impeachment trial.
At any rate, he said the original 215 signatories were enough to constitute a complaint that was "sufficient in form and in substance".
