Imee Marcos on impeachment raps vs VP Duterte: 'Lalabanan ko 'yan hanggang dulo'
By Dhel Nazario
Senator Imee Marcos voiced out on Thursday, February 6, her opposition to the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
"Lalabanan ko "yan hanggang dulo (I will fight that until the end)," Marcos said in a statement.
From 215 on Wednesday, the number of signatories to the Senate-referred impeachment complaint against Duterte now stands at 239.
This significant jump was shared with House reporters by "Young Guns" bloc members Assistant Minority Leader 1-Rider Party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez and Assistant Majority Leader Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong during a press conference Thursday.
Aside from the impeachment, the presidential sister, who's known to be friends with the Vice President also stated that she's against "destabilization, revolutionary government, and resignation", expressing her disapproval of disorder.
"Sa dinami dami ng problema natin, sa hirap na dinaranas ng mamamayang Pilipino - matataas na presyo't bigas, kawalan ng trabaho't kulang na sweldo, sa kakulangan ng tulong sa magsasaka, PWDs, seniors atbp, impeachment ba at destabilization ang solusyon? (With all the problems we have and the hardships faced by the Filipino people - high prices of rice, lack of jobs and insufficient wages, lack of support for farmers, PWDs, seniors, etc., is impeachment and destabilization the solution?)" she asked.
"Nakakahiya! Bagkus, harapin ang dumarami at tunay na problema ng bayan (Shameful! Instead, address the growing and real problems of the nation)," she added.
During the Kapihan sa Senado forum, Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero reminded his senator-colleagues to refrain from talking for or against the impeachable officer.
"I will admonish and keep on reminding the senators who will surely be part of the impeachment court either in the 19th or 20th Congress...to kindly please refrain from talking one way or the other, for or against the impeachment or the impeachable officer," he said.
"In relation to this case, pwede naman nilang purihin si Vice President Sara hanggang langit kung gusto nila, nang walang kinalaman at hindi pumapatungkol sa impeachment. Wala namang problema yan (In relation to this case, they can praise Vice President Sara all they want, without it having anything to do with impeachment. There's no problem with that)," he added.
But Escudero stated as well that he cannot control what the senators can or cannot say.
