Mayor Abby to promote preventive healthcare to improve Filipinos' quality of life
Improving quality of life is one of the goals of Makati City Mayor and senatorial aspirant Abby Binay, who aims to promote better preventive healthcare programs in the Senate, ensuring all Filipinos, regardless of socio-economic status, have access to quality care.

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Binay said, “Isusulong ko ang mas mahusay na preventive healthcare sa Senado. Naniniwala akong mas importante ang preventive healthcare dahil mas mahal ang paggagamot kapag malubha na ang sakit,” she said. (I will advocate for better preventive healthcare at the Senate. I believe preventive healthcare is more important because it costs much less than treating a more serious illness).”
She added that Congress should prioritize funding for preventive healthcare programs and the enhancement of public health facilities across the country.
“Dapat pagtuunan ang pagbibigay ng sapat na pondo para madagdagan ang mga doktor at primary health facilities na makapagbibigay ng libreng serbisyo sa mga mamamayan, kahit yung mga nasa malalayong lugar (We must prioritize budgetary allocations for additional doctors and primary care facilities that can provide free services for all citizens, even those in far-flung communities),” the mayor stated.
Binay explained that if barangay health centers are well-equipped, offer free services, and are accessible to all, people will be more likely to have regular checkups and seek help early when they feel unwell.
“Kapag libre ang checkup, laboratory at diagnostics, at gamot, hindi magdadalawang-isip ang mga mamamayan na kumonsulta sa doktor, may nararamdaman man o wala (With free consultation, laboratory and diagnostic services, and medicines, people won’t hesitate to go for a consultation whether they have symptoms or not),” she said.
“Mas madaling matutukoy ang sakit at kaagad din itong magagamot bago pa lumala (People will be checked immediately, and it will be easier to identify the illness and treat it right away before it worsens),” Binay added.
The preventive healthcare is part of the mayor's comprehensive health program that includes free maintenance medicines for seniors and the poor and free and unlimited dialysis and chemotherapy.
