Impeachment complaint vs VP Sara Duterte reaches Senate
The Senate on Wednesday, February 5 formally received the verified copies of the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, just a few hours after over one-third of lawmakers of the House of Representatives voted to impeach the vice president.

House Secretary General Reginald S. Velasco arrived at the Senate at about 4:30 p.m. to transmit the impeachment documents.
The Senate will stand as the impeachment court during the trial of the vice president; the senators will act as judges at the trial.
There were four impeachment complaints that were filed against Duterte which includes her alleged misuse of confidential funds, graft and corruption and betrayal of public trust.
All are grounds for impeachment under the 1987 Constitution.
Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero had earlier refused to comment about the impeachment complaint to prevent the Senate from being accused of partisanship.
Nevertheless, Sen. Joel Villanueva said, members of the Upper Chamber are prepared to work and embrace their responsibility as an impeachment court despite the preparations for the upcoming May 2025 elections.
“So, tayo bilang parte ng Senado (As part of the Senate), we're just ready to do our part and perform our duties and responsibilities. Yan yung sinumpaan naming tungkulin bilang mga Senador ng Republika ng Pilipinas (That is something we swore to do as senators of the Philippines,” Villanueva told reporters in an interview.
