BACOLOD CITY – The city government of Davao has extended P3.8 million in financial assistance to local government units in Negros Island affected by the Dec. 9, 2024 Kanlaon Volcano eruption.

Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) head retired Police Lt. Col. Alfredo Baloran personally turned over checks amounting to P2 million to the provincial government of Negros Occidental and the cities of Bago and La Carlota on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson received P1 million while Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo and La Carlota Mayor Rex Jalando-on each got P500,000.
Jalando-on emphasized the importance of solidarity and cooperation in disaster response and thanked the city government of Davao for their support.
La Carlota City is supporting more than 1,000 evacuees almost two months since the eruption.
Jalando-on said that the amount will strengthen ongoing relief efforts and provide much-needed support to displaced residents who remain in evacuation centers within the city.
Yulo thanked Davao City for their generosity to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bago City. This help also brings hope that everything will come to pass as long as we are all helping each other, the mayor said.
The provincial government of Negros Oriental received P1 million while Canlaon City had P500,000 and Vallehermoso town got P300,000.
Negros Oriental Gov. Manuel “Chaco” Sagarbarria welcomed Baloran and his team during their visit to the province on Tuesday.
Negros Oriental has 1,063 families or 3,417 individuals inside evacuation centers and 910 families or 2,912 persons totaling 1,968 families or 6,314 individuals outside.
Recipient LGUs have been under a state of calamity due to the severe effects of the eruption that displaced thousands of residents.
