BACOLOD CITY – Fifty-seven families or 232 individuals lost their homes in a fire in Purok Pasil, Barangay Zone 5, Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

The city government has provided medical assistance and basic necessities and appealed for clothes, food, hygiene kits, and other necessities for them. They are temporarily sheltered at the city gymnasium.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Talisay reported that 1,500-square meters in the congested residential area were affected by the afternoon blaze.
Senior Fire Officer 1 John Mondido, arson investigator of the Talisay City Fire Station, said that the fire was believed to be caused by a loose electrical connection from an unattended plugged extension cord.
Mondido said that the owner of the house, where the fire originated, said that they have been tapping electricity from their neighbor through an extension cord. But nobody was at home when the fire happened.
Fifty-three houses were totally and four were partially damaged.
