Squid Game challenge: Marikina pedestrian lane's 10-second crossing time sparks online jokes
Are you familiar with the Squid Game? What if it happens in real life—would you take the challenge? In Marikina, a pedestrian lane made netizens laugh and reminded them of a challenge from the popular series, as it gives people only 10 seconds to cross.

In a TikTok video uploaded by Ivan Eusebio, they can be seen crossing the corner of Sumulong Highway and Katipunan Extension with the caption, "Game 1: Makatawid ng pedestrian papunta S&R Marikina (Cross the pedestrian lane to S&R Marikina) within 10 seconds," while a song from the popular series was playing in the background.
Netizens said it can be crossed, but it would require running or walking quickly. However, their concern is for the elderly, pregnant women, children, and persons with disabilities.
Some commented: "Eto yung totoong red light, green light (This is the real red light, green light)," "99 seconds ng buhay mo nasayang para lang sa 10 second na pagtawid (99 seconds of your life wasted just for a 10-second crossing)."
"Dapat pala runner and physically fit mga taga diyan kapag tatawid (It seems like only runners and physically fit people can cross here)."
"Naalala ko tuloy nung kinaladkad ko mommy kong senior. Nakakataranta naman kasi (It reminded me of when I had to drag my mom, who's a senior. It's really overwhelming)."
Meanwhile, Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro said that the traffic light was installed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), but the local government is now conducting its own investigation.
