The Mambaling Police Station 11 of the Cebu City Police Office rescued the boy on Monday night, Feb. 3, in Barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete town, southern Cebu.
The boy was reportedly the gunman who shot a 44-year-old woman in Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City, on Sunday night, Feb. 2. The woman was critically wounded in the head.
Police were tipped off that the boy was hiding in Barangay Mantalongon.
Police are checking reports that he was paid to execute the crime. An unlicensed .45 caliber pistol was recovered from the boy.
While the boy was linked to gun-for-hire activities, Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, Deputy City Director for Operations of CCPO, said there is no active gun-for-hire group in this city.
The CCPO received a report that the boy was involved in illegal drug activities.
"It speaks volumes and length as well as to the kind of environment that this particular child grew up in. We would not want to blame the parents but they have a big responsibility and involvement in the kind of environment he grew up with,” Macatangay said.
The boy was turned over to social workers.
