A scammer posing as a delivery rider stole a tablet being sold online in Santa Ana, Manila, the Manila Police District (MPD) reported on Monday, Feb. 3.
According to the police report, the victim said the buyer contacted him about purchasing the tablet he had posted for sale online.
After a short video call, the victim agreed to sell the gadget for P18,000, with the buyer requesting to book the delivery rider personally to pick up the item.
A closed circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the buyer wearing a helmet and disguised himself as the delivery rider who will pick up the device from the victim.
Upon arrival, the buyer said that the payment for the device will be sent once the rider picked up the tablet from him.
However, no payment was made during the transaction.
The disguised rider even asked the victim for gas compensation worth P400, claiming he would return it later.
The suspect never returned with the money, and the victim later realized he had been scammed.
Meanwhile, the police said they are still working to identify the rider, as the driver's license presented by the suspect during his transaction with the victim was found to be fraudulent.
