DAVAO CITY – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau-Davao region on Monday, Feb. 3, warned of rain-induced landslides in some towns in Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental.

The MGB said the geohazard advisory will run from Feb. 3 to 6 and affects some barangays in Maragusan and Pantukan in Davao de Oro and Banaybanay, City of Mati, Lupon, and San Isidro.
Many of these towns sit on the foot of mountainous areas and have experienced flooding and landslides in the past.
“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly to very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in the hazard maps and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall,” the MGB said in an advisory on Facebook.
The MGB urged local government units to refer to the geohazard maps for disaster preparedness measures.
The MGB issued the advisory as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration advised that Mindanao will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies in the following days.
