Barangay captain gunned down in Abra

A barangay captain and his driver were gunned down in Sitio Palicad, Poblacion, Pilar, Abra on Friday afternoon, Feb. 28.

Police identified the victims as Froilan Bueno, chairman of Barangay Quillat, Langiden, Abra, and Kevin Bueno.

Reports said the victims were part of the convoy of Langiden mayoral candidate Artemio “Billy” Donato Sigun on their way to Villaviciosa, Abra when they were ambushed at about 4:40 p.m.

The incident was reported to the police who discovered three individuals in a black Sports Utility Vehicle on the roadside in Sitio Palicad.

Kevin was found dead with a bullet wound in the head.

Froilan and companion Sonny Bisares were taken to a hospital in Bangued, Abra where the barangay official was declared dead from a bullet wound in the body.

Bisares sustained a bullet wound and is now recuperating.

Hours before his death, Froilan posted a video on his Facebook Reels showing him riding a vehicle following a convoy on a road in Abra.

Relatives of Froilan have sought justice over his murder.

Sigun was a former mayor of Langiden.
