100 baby turtles released in Boracay

ILOILO CITY – One-hundred young Olive ridley sea turtles were recently released at world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-6 Western Visayas said they were hatched and nurtured at the resort-island.

“Let us continue protecting this unique marine animal as they play a vital role in keeping the marine ecosystem healthy. We are grateful to the people on the island for their love and concern for sea turtles. Whenever they lend a hand, it is a win for the conservation,” said DENR-6 Regional Director Livino Duran.

The DENR-Boracay Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and Boracay New Coast facilitated the release of these turtles hatched within the beachside of Boracay New Coast last December.

This was part of the private-public partnership (PPP) strengthened following the six-month rehabilitation of the resort-island in 2018.
