Traffic slowdown expected as DPWH repairs España Boulevard

Motorists should expect slower traffic along España Boulevard in Manila as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started a week-long asphalt overlay project.

The DPWH-North Manila District Engineering Office said the roadwork, which started at 11 p.m. on Feb. 26, covers a 508-meter stretch from Welcome Rotonda to Maceda Street westbound and is set for completion by 4 a.m. on March 5.

"To minimize congestion, only one lane will be closed at a time, with completed sections reopened immediately to motorists," DPWH said.

"España Boulevard serves as a vital route to the University Belt, making regular maintenance essential to ensuring smoother traffic flow," it added.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes and exercise caution while passing through the affected area.

Authorities also reminded drivers to inspect their vehicles before traveling and avoid driving while fatigued to prevent accidents.

Meanwhile, the number coding scheme remains in effect, restricting vehicles with plate numbers 7 and 8 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
