Philippines to remain storm-free in first week of March — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Feb. 27 that the country will remain free from tropical cyclones in the last few days of February through the first week of March.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said no tropical cyclone is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) until the first week of March.

He added that the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” will still affect the country in early March, but it will not be as cold, and the amihan season may end by mid or late March.

On Feb. 28, Estareja said scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected to affect Caraga and Davao Region.

Light rains are also expected in other parts of Luzon, while isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

From March 1 to 3, Estareja warned of continued scattered rains and thunderstorms in Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and parts of Caraga and Davao Region.

Meanwhile, he said warm weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may prevail over the rest of the country, especially during the middle of the day.
