The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) does not endorse or associate with any tree-cutting contractors in Metro Manila amid reports of money-making racket of some groups offering such service.
In a statement, the DENR National Capital Region said only contractors with official business permits and registered chainsaws from the agency are authorized to conduct tree-cutting activities in the region.
“We urge the public to exercise extreme caution when engaging with individuals or entities offering tree-cutting services,” the agency said.
The environment department said that “only contractors with official business permits and registered chainsaws from DENR-NCR are authorized to conduct tree-cutting activities within the region.”
“Hiring unauthorized contractors will lead to violations of environmental laws,” it stated.
The DENR-NCR assured the public that it is reviewing and improving its processes to provide more relevant information and guidance on proper tree-cutting procedures.
In addition, the agency urged the public to report any illegal tree-cutting activities, particularly those using unregistered chainsaws or operating without a permit.
“If you encounter any tree-cutting activities without a permit and/or use of an unregistered chainsaw, we strongly encourage you to report it immediately to DENR-NCR,” it said.
“Your cooperation plays a crucial role in protecting our environment and preventing illegal activities.”
The DENR-NCR said concerned citizens may reports illegal tree-cutting activities at 0920-973-0301 loc. 4206.
