Warmer weather expected this weekend but scattered rains still likely — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Feb. 26, that warmer temperatures are expected this weekend, but scattered rains and thunderstorms will still affect several parts of the country.
In its weather outlook for the next five days, PAGASA Weather Specialist Analiza Clauren-Jorda said that from Thursday to Friday, Feb. 27 to 28, the shear line—formed by the collision of cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) and warm breezes from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies)—will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Northern Mindanao.
The easterlies will cause similar weather conditions over Davao Region and Soccsksargen, while the northeast monsoon will bring mostly cloudy skies with light to moderate rains over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon.
Clauren-Jorda warned residents in these areas to be vigilant about the potential risks of flooding and landslides.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will see partly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or evening.
Clauren-Jorda said the effect of the amihan will weaken by Friday afternoon, and the easterlies will be the dominant weather system in the country.
While temperatures are expected to rise over the weekend, she cautioned the public to stay prepared for localized rain showers and thunderstorms, which may occur despite the warmer weather.
On Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2, Clauren-Jorda said Caraga and Davao Region will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon or evening.
