MARIA AURORA, Aurora – A barangay chairman and his two companions were killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision in Barangay San Joaquin here on Monday night, Feb. 24.

Police identified the victims as Mauro Castillo, 54, chairman of Barangay Baubo here; Emily Ancheta of Barangay Bazal, this town, and Roderick Mapindan of Barangay Zabali, Baler, Aurora.
Initial investigation said the fatalities were on their way home from the wake of the vice mayor here onboard a convoy of tricycles when they collided with a speeding pickup truck on a curved portion of the at around 9:30 a.m.
Three other individuals were injured and taken to the Aurora Memorial Hospital – Rowena Castillo, Pilaya Ancheta, 56, of Barangay Bazal, and Marie Biato.
Due to the impact of the collision, the tricycles slammed into the wall of the Maria Aurora National High School which collapsed and the victims were thrown out of their tricycles.
The truck driver, King Gil Reyes of Barangay Poblacion 2, this town, was apprehended and faces multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries cases.
Vice Mayor Amado Geneta here passed away due to illness. Some of the victims were close relatives of the vice mayor.
