Pawnshop in Davao City robbed of P40-M jewelry


A pawnshop in Davao City was robbed of jewelry valued at P40 million on Wednesday morning, Feb. 26.

Police said three armed men perpertrated the robbery at Hannah’s Pawnshop and Jewelry on Ilustre St.

The suspects entered the establishment and announced a holdup at gunpoint. They escaped onboard a motorcycle after a few minutes.

Police launched a hot-pursuit operation.

A suspect was apprehended in a public market  after their getaway motorcycle suffered mechanical trouble.

His companions managed to evade pursuing lawmen.

The arrested suspect was identified as  Jonny Bulawan, a resident of Albuera, Leyte.

Recovered from the suspect were an M-16 rifle, a 9mm pistol, bullets, motorcycle, and the stolen pieces of jewelry.

Davao City police chief Police Col. Hansel Marantan lauded Police Station 2 for the arrest of the suspect.

"Once again, the unwavering dedication and swift action of our men and women in uniform have proven that crime has no place in Davao City. I commend the officers of San Pedro Police Station, led by Police Major Emmanuel Manlatican, for their outstanding performance in the successful apprehension of a key suspect in the robbery hold-up at Hannah Pawnshop. Your decisive response and relentless pursuit of justice led not only to the suspect’s capture but also to the recovery of high-value stolen items and firearms that could have posed a greater threat to public safety."

 Follow-up investigation and manhunt operations are underway against Bulawan's cohorts.
