A total of 43 couples exchanged "I dos" during the traditional “Kasalang Bayan” held at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City on Feb. 26.
According to Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, the oldest couple was “Lolo Dioscoro Rodillo,” 60, and his bride “Lola Pilar Duque,” 59.
Rubiano said Lolo Dioscoro and Lola Pilar wanted to get married after living together as husband and wife for a long time.
She said two persons with disabilities, alias “Omar,” 46 and alias “Raymunda,” 48, both from Barangay 113 Maricaban, Pasay City were also married during the "Kasalang Bayan."
The mayor said the city government conducts mass wedding every February or the love month to help families who cannot afford to hold their church or civil weddings.
Rubiano said the city government offers free certified true copies of the marriage license, bridal bouquets, arras or wedding coins, and free banquet for the newly-wedded couples.
“Marriage is not a walk in the park. There are so many factors that may affect your marriage life like finances, jealousy, lack of communication, and others. To avoid a fight, first, do not to give your partner reasons to become jealous and insecure. Second, constant communication is a must. And last, ask guidance from our Lord,” Rubiano told the couples.
