Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia and CCPO director Police Col. Enrico Figueroa on Wednesday, Feb. 26, led the groundbreaking for the P49-million project.
The building is being built at Camp Sotero Cabahug on Gorordo Ave. where the current CCPO headquarters is located.
Garcia said plans to construct a new CCPO building started 10 years ago.
The project was delayed due to concerns over budget and ownership of the area.
All issues were resolved in 2019 but the project still failed to take off due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Garcia said when he took over to replace dismissed Mayor Michael Rama, he made sure that the project would finally be realized.
"I am very happy that finally, we are going to break ground on this new edifice worth P49 million. This is an investment for our police and of course our show of support that the PNP is indeed our partners in fighting criminality, in keeping peace and order in our beloved Cebu City," Garcia said.
Aside from the initial P49.9-million budget needed to construct the building, the city will allocate more money to make sure that offices are well-equipped.
Figueroa thanked Garcia and the city government for their support.
"On behalf of the men and women of Cebu City Police Office, we express our greatest gratitude to Cebu City local government unit and most especially to our city mayor and to everyone involved in this project," said Figueroa.
