CIDG arrests 2 foreign 'quack doctors' in Parañaque City raid

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two Chinese for allegedly duping a number of people through   illegal practice of medicine in a raid in Paraňaque City early Wednesday morning.

CIDG director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said the operation was  immediately conducted after they received a complaint that the suspects were engaged in the manufacture and sale of food and medicine that are misbranded.

He identified the arrested suspects as  Huan and Jian, Chinese nationals who are residing in a condominium in Barangay Tambo. 

“The raid against these suspects is  warning to all criminals that the CIDG is here to capture all individuals or groups, local or foreign nationals, who violate the law and commit criminalities in the country,” said Torre. 

During the operation, Torre said the two Chinese failed to provide licenses and  permits required to dispense medical products, operate a medical clinic, or practice medicine in the country.

Seized during the operation were  numerous boxes of assorted medicines and drugs, medical supplies and equipment, infusion alarm, surgical instruments,  one laptop used as Ultrasound Diagnostic System, notebooks of medical procedure, and Chinese prescription receipts. 

Torre sad the arrested suspects will be charged before the National Prosecution Service with violations of RA 3720 as amended by RA 9711 (The Food and Drug Administration Act of  2029 and Section 10 of RA 4224 (An Act To Amend Certain Sections of RA 2382- The Medical Act of 1959) for committed acts not constituting a practice of medicine.
