Busted bluff: Rider arrested for faking robbery to cover loss of collected money to gambling

CAVITE – A parcel delivery rider was arrested in Silang after falsely claiming he was robbed to justify the money that he collected from customers and lost to gambling.

A report from the Police Regional Office 4A stated that the 26-year-old suspect, identified as alias Josh, went to the Silang Municipal Police Station (MPS) morning on Monday, Feb. 25.

Alias Josh claimed that on Feb. 23, while temporarily parking his motorcycle in Barangay Toledo to attend to his personal needs, two helmeted suspects on a motorcycle approached him, pointed a firearm at him, and declared a holdup.

The rider said the men allegedly took P13,400 from him, which he had collected from customers. He also stated that he reported the incident to the barangay officials of Barangay Toledo.

Alias Josh’s statement was included in an affidavit which he signed and attested to before Silang MPS Chief Lt. Col. Louie Gonzaga.

In response to the report, the investigator-on-case conducted a thorough verification and site inspection at the location to assess the validity of the claim.

However, findings revealed that no motorcycle matching the rider's description had passed through the area at the specified time and date.

Upon being confronted with the investigation findings on the evening of Feb. 25, alias Josh admitted to fabricating the robbery report to hide the fact that he had lost the money to gambling.

Following his admission, authorities arrested alias Josh for perjury.
