According to the Rodriguez Municipal Police Station (Rodriguez MPS), the victim and his friends were passing through Barangay San Rafael while pushing their broken motorcycle early Sunday, Feb. 23.

Along the way, they came across the suspect and his drinking companions. One of them allegedly handed them a lighter and jokingly suggested setting the motorcycle on fire.

What was meant as a joke escalated into an argument that eventually turned into a fight between the two.

In the midst of the fight, police said the suspect went inside his house, grabbed a butterfly knife (balisong), and stabbed the victim in the face.

Authorities immediately conducted an operation that led to the arrest of the 27-year-old suspect. He is now detained at the Rodriguez MPS and will be charged with frustrated homicide.
