Fake NBI agent duped Chinese businessman of P10M; arrested by Pasay cops

A man posing as a National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) intelligence officer was arrested by members of the Pasay City Police for duping a Chinese businessman of P10 million for the supposed release of his compatriots in Tondo, Manila on Feb. 23.
The suspect was identified as alias “Crisanto,” 50. He was arrested at around 9:15 p.m. the intersection of Juan Luna Street and Hermosa Street, Tondo, Manila.
Pasay City Police chief, Col. Samuel Pabonita said Crisanto was arrested by members of the Investigation and Detective Management Section (IDMS) and the Pasay City Police Trackers Team after the victim, identified as alias “Chen,” 38, a resident of Makati City, filed a complaint against the suspect for swindling.
Pabonita said Chen met the suspect on Feb. 20 inside a seafood restaurant in Pasay City and introduced himself as an NBI intelligence officer.

The victim told the police that he handed P10 million to Crisanto to release 20 Chinese nationals detained by the NBI Anti-Cybercrime Unit following an operation at a KTV bar in Parañaque City.
Pabonita said police operatives recovered from the suspect the P1 million in cash which was part of the stolen money and a recently purchased red Ford Raptor with plate number NDJ 8758.
The suspect was detained at the Pasay City Police Station and charged for Swindling (Estafa) under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code and Usurpation of Authority under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code.
