La Union 1st district Rep. Paolo Ortega has called former president Rodrigo Duterte "father faker"—a word he made up with a feminine counterpart "mother faker"—for supposedly spreading fake news and disinformation about President Marcos and the administration.
Ortega on Monday, Feb. 24, agreed with Malacañang after it called Duterte a "one-man fake news factory" after the ex-ex-president said that Marcos was "veering toward dictatorship".
"Parang factory sila ng fake news, pati yung mga data nila, pati yung mga rally nila, para talagang, literally, factory ng fake news (They're really like a factory of fake news, even their data, their rallies. They're literally a fake news factory)," Ortega said in a press conference, referring to the former president, his children and they're allies.
"Tapos kapag hinold sila accountable ng tao, kakambyo naman sila na joke joke lang 'yun (Then, if people hold them accountable, they suddenly change their stance, and say they're just joking)," he added.
So, if Duterte is a one-man fake news factory, Ortega wondered: "Ano bang tawag mo doon sa hari ng (How would you call a king of) [fake news]?"
"Father faker? Father ng mga (of) fake news, ganon? Mother faker?" he said.
Ortega described the Dutertes as "super villains" and wondered what benefit they get from making and spreading fake news.
"Yung mga problema natin dyan, ang target natin mahanapan ng solusyon. Pero bawat galaw, saka bawat pagtulong sa taumbayan...gagawan nanaman nila ng fake news (We target to provide solutions to our problems there. But in every action we take, every help we give to the people, they come up with fake news)," he said.
"Ewan ko ba, parang faker, hater... Nakaka-bad vibes (I don't know. They're fakers. They're haters. It's giving me bad vibes)," he said.
He said the Dutertes and the candidates they support should rather lay out their platform for the country this election season instead of spreading false information.
