Salinda finishes third in Mexico Open

The 27-year-old American of Filipino descent sizzled at the back nine with four birdies apart from firing two on his first nine holes in a bogey-free round to finish with a four-round total of 265, just one stroke behind eventual champion Brian Campbell.

Campbell captured the crown after a birdie on the second extra hole in his playoff with Aldrich Potgieter. He carded a fourth-round 70 while Potgieter posted a 71 to both finish with identical 264.

Salidan, who had earlier rounds of 65, 67 and 68, pocketed $483,000 (around P27.9 million) consolation purse and improved to 48^th on the FedEx Cup standings.

It was his best performance so far this season after missing the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii and The American Express, and finishing tied for 41^st in the Farmers Insurance Open -- all in January.

Meanwhile, Rico Hoey missed the cut by three strokes a few days back after a second-round 74 for 142.
