TALISAY CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL - Camille Villar cited the importance of supporting the modernization of agriculture, and in providing training to farmers to boost food production and attain food security in the country.
In a press conference at Nature's Village Resort here, Villar noted that, while the country has many laws on agriculture, there is a need to review the implementation of these laws.
Villar vowed to further strengthen the oversight functions of Congress in the implementation of agriculture-related laws, particularly those that would help the farmers.
She cited the Sugar Cane Industry Development Act, that aims to make sustainable the production of the sugar cane industry.
“The law provides more structure support, training for farmers with a two-billion peso annual funding for scholarships for our farmers. (This is) to give equipment to them to make sure that they can modernize, and be more productive and efficient,” she said in a press conference with Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas candidates.
With proper implementation, she is optimistic that such laws can really help the farmers.
“Marami tayong magagandang batas. Marami tayong pwede pang gawin pero siguraduhin natin na maganda ang implementation,” Villar, who is running for senator under the administration slate.
