The Zamboanga Valientes showed their true worth and beat the Letran Knights, 91-81, in their much-awaited rematch to rule the 3rd Gov. Ann K. Hofer Open Invitational Basketball Tournament in Zamboanga Sibugay on Friday, Feb. 21.

Out to avenge their 65-62 loss to the Knights in the elims, the Valientes made a good run in the first quarter before pouring it all in the second frame to create enough separation and eventually prevail in the pocket tournament.
The Starhorse-Basilan Sea Titans likewise exacted sweet revenge over the College of St. Benilde Blazers, scoring a 75-60 win to finish third.
The Mac Tan-mentored Starhorse-Basilan started cold and appeared to be heading to another defeat to a collegiate squad but they rallied mightily in the third that proved enough to cool down the Blazers.
The Sea Titans, managed by Bernard Yang, lost to the Blazers, 87-84.
The Knights, however, refused to fade into the night and applied a full court press that somehow rattled the Valientes.
Timely baskets from Vic Manuel and Mike Tolomia restored for the Valientes.
