Man runs amok in Cebu, hacks father, neighbor dead

CEBU CITY – A 25-year-old man believed to be mentally unstable ran amok and hacked his father and neighbor dead on Friday afternoon, Feb. 21, in Barangay Luka, Oslob town, Cebu province.

Police identified the victims as Marciano Dinaguit, 70, and Summy Armalinto, 75.

Investigation said the suspect, Randy, son of Marciano, went wild with a bolo.

Randy first attacked his neighbor Armalinto. Marciano tried to pacify his son but he too was attacked. Marciano and Armalinto succumbed to multiple hack wounds.

A brother of the suspect said that he also tried to pacify him but backed off when Randy warned not to approach him. The suspect’s brother ran to the barangay hall and sought help from barangay tanods.

Barangay officials called the police who found the bodies of the victims.

Police tried to convince the suspect to surrender peacefully. The suspect resisted arrest and attacked lawmen who neutralized him by shooting him in the hand and foot.

The reason why the suspect ran amok is yet to be determined but according to relatives, he has been acting strangely for years.

The suspect is in police custody. Police said Randy faces parricide and murder charges.
